A quadratic equation is a single-variable, polynomial equation of degree 2. For example, is quadratic but or are not quadratic.

The quadratic formula says that for any quadratic polynomial in the form , the two roots are in the form . Quadratics can also be solved by factoring, but it's not very easy to do since you have to assume that the roots are integers, and you'll have to quickly determine the factorization of that satisfies.
