Question 37871: I have a problem i need help with, if anyone can help me here. Thanks
The height h (in feet) of an object that is dropped from the height of s feet is given by the formula h = s - 16t^2 ,where t is the time the object has been falling. A 5 foot tall woman on a sidewalk looks directly overhead and sees a window washer drop a bottle from the 4 story. How long does she have to get out of the way? Round to the nearest tenth.(A story is 12 feet.)
Thanks for any help that anyone can give me here. I beleive the answer is 1.3 seconds but i think i am wrong?
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Well if the bottle is dropped from a height of 48 feet and she is 5 feet tall, the time she has to move is the time it takes for the bottle to drop 43 feet.
Another form of the equation you gave is
y = 16t^2
So here
43 = 16t^2
t^2 = 43/16
t = 1.29 seconds
