You have a right triangle with a base=6ft.
The hypotenuse=10 ft.
Using the formula:
a^2+b^2=c^2
6^2+b^2=10^2
36+b^2=100
b^2=100-36
b^2=64
b=sqrt64
b=8 ft is the height up the wall that the ladder reaches.

this is actually a geometry problem using the Pythagorean Theorem
the ladder leaning against the wall makes a triangle with the ground. the base of ground is 6ft the hypotenuse in this case is the length of the ladder at 10 ft so the missing side is the length of the wall
a and b represent the 2 smaller sides and c represents the hypotenuse
a=6 b=? and c=10
plug them in the equatioN
