The vertex form of a parabola is where(h,k) is the vertex

Completing the Square and putting it into the vetex form of a parabola





a = -2 a < 0 parabola opens downward
The x-coordinate of the vertex 1s 1/2
The y-coordinate of the vertex is 5/2
The equation of the line of symmetry is x = 1/2
The maximum f(x) is 5/2
The value f(1/2)=5/2 is maximum
