Start by "collecting" the b's on one side of the equation:
subtract d from both sides , the equation becomes
subtract a*b from both sides , the equation now becomes
take out b as a common factor on the left-hand side of the equation, the equation is now
Now divide both sides by (1 - a) and the you've solved for b
