QUESTION: Is it possible for the graph of a quadratic function to have only one x-intercept, if the vertex is off the x-axis? Why or why not?

No, the only way for a quadratic can have one x-intercept is for the vertex to lie on the x-axis.
Otherwise it has either 2 or no x-intercepts.
