Question 30765: Solve the quadratic equation by using the quadratic formula.
This is what I get:
2x^2+4x=-1
2x^+4x+1=0
x=[-(4)+or- sqrt(4)^2-4(2)(1)]/[2(2)]
x=[-4+or-sqrt16-8]/4
x=[-4+or-sqrt8]/4
my answer x=[-4+or-2sqt2]/4
my bookk says its:
x=[-2+or-sqrt2]/2
How do they get there?

Answer by mbarugel(146)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You actually got the correct solution, and it's the same as the book's.
You have:

But you can divide both the numerator and the denominator by 2:

which is the solution your book gives. You had found the correct answer :)
I hope this helps!
