I got no you won't, but I'm confused on if I did it correctly or not. My teacher wants us to solve using the quadratic formula or factoring, but how do you do that when the equation is already given?

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
your teacher wants you to plug 40 in for h and see if there is any time when the ball is over the wire

40= -16t^2 + 40t + 6 ___ 0 = -16t^2 + 40t - 34 ___ 0 = 8t^2 - 20t + 17

use quadratic formula to find t

you are correct that it can't be done
___ the solutions will be imaginary
