first you have to pull out the greatest common factor in both terms. since 24 is the gcf, we pull it out.
24(6x^2-1)
you get 24(6x^2-1) because 24*6x^2=144x^2 and 24*1=24

look for anything that appears in both parts...both have "24" since 144 is 24*6, so we can write:
