Question 297707: Could someone describe how the discriminant can help you choose a strategy for solving a quadratic equation? I understand it can help you decide weather or not the equation has any real solutions rational or irrational but I don't understand anymore then that.

If you've calculated the discriminant, why not continue with the quadratic equation? It works in all cases.
