What is the first step in solving a quadratic equation?
A. Factor.
Sometimes, but not always.

Not in this case:



Since it is not factorable.  You'd begin by using the
quadratic formula, or completing the square.

B. Get zero on one side of the equal sign.
Sometimes, but not always.

Not in this case:



for you'd begin by taking square roots

C. Set the factors equal to zero.
Sometimes, but not always, certainly not when 
no factoring has been done, ofr if factoring is 
impossible.


D. Each problem is solved differently
That's the only one that you can count on!
