Question 286090: I would really appreciate some help solving this Quadratic Equation:
.
I know to set up the equation something like this: (x-?)(x+?). I just have a hard time firguring out how to determine which numbers to put in place of the question marks.

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
this is particularly fun because of the huge number 8448
but you want factors of 8448 that differ by 8
that is one factor is 8 more than the other.
the larger number is is negative and the smaller one is positive.
the square root of 8448 is a bit more than 91 almost 92
what would happen if you tried 4 more with 4 less?
96 and 88 are 8 apart is their product 8448?
so the numbers are near that but the product must be 8448
that is the key to the whole problem
