Question 277692: Is it possible for a quadratic equation to have only one solution? Explain with an example.
Answer by Anthea Lawn(22)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.. yes and no ... consider the following equation
(x-3)(x-3) = 0
which expands to give the quadratic equation x^2 -6x+9=0
In this case, there is only one answer, ie x=3.
Some purists however, argue that all quadratic equations have two solutions, and indeed so does this example, it's just that BOTH solutions are x=3.
