Qualitative refers to a type of data. There are two general types - qualitative and quantitative.
(i) Quantitative sounds like "quantity", so we are dealing with numbers. The types of numbers are interval, nominal, and ordinal.
(ii) Qualitative sounds like "quality", so we are looking at degrees of data. This data cannot generally be expressed as numbers. For example feelings, emotions, perceptions, etc. are qualitative.
