Question 22384: Explain each step involved in using the 'ac' method to factor the following:
5w^2 + 13w - 6

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
ac = 5*-6=-30
b = 13
Determine two integers whose product is -30 and whose sum is 13.
They are 15 and -2
Rewrite the original equation putting 15w-2w in place of 13w as follows.
5w^2 +15w-2w-6
Factor the 1st two then the last two terms as follows:
5w(w+3)-2(w+6)
Factor again to get:
(w+3)(5x-2)
