The basic form of quadratic equations is,,,,

ax^2 +bx +c = 0
.
The easiest method of solution for x is to factor, and set factors = 0
.
some eqns are just hard to factor,,,,for those use the general "quadratic formula",,,
.
x= { -b +/- sqrt{b^2 -4ac} / 2*a
.
Note, all quadratic eqn have 2 solutions,,,some may be immaginary.
