The hard way:
x*(x+2) = 323
x^2 + 2x - 323 = 0
If you spot that it can be factored:
(x+19)*(x-17) = 0
x = -19 --> -19 & -17
x = 17 ---> 17 & 19
---------------------
The easy way:
sqrt(323) is almost 18.
The numbers are adjacent to 18, 17 & 19.
