Find an equation for which -3 and 4 are solutions.
.
Remember when you "factored" a quadratic and it would give you two solutions?
.
This is sort of a "reverse" process.
If -3 and 4 are solutions, then:
(x+3) and (x-4)
MUST be factors.
.
Now, to find an equation -- multiply the two factors together:
(x+3)(x-4)
FOIL:
x^2 - 4x + 3x - 12
Combine like-terms:
x^2 - x - 12 = 0 (this is what they're looking for)
