Question 193753: What do you suppose is the reason the solution is complex when the discriminant is negative?
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Because the square root of a negative number involves "i" as a factor.
Therefore the answer can only be expressed in the form x + yi or x-yi
which are complex numbers.
