Question 176593: Please help. I have another one that I think I solved but I have never had one come out in decimals before and it is for a quiz and I want to make sure it is correct.
f(x)=x^2-9x+5
I used the -b/2a and 4ac-b^2/4a formulas which makes the problems 9/2(1)and 4(1)(5)-(-9)^2/4(1).
I came up with x=4.5 and y=25.25 Is this right? Thank you so much.

I assume you are looking for the roots of the function:
x^2 - 9x + 5 = 0
Use the quadratic formula:
x = [9 +- sqrt(81 - 4*1*5)]/2
x = [9 +- sqrt(81 - 20)]/2
x = [9 +- sqrt(61)]
x = [9 +- 7.8102]/2
x = 8.405.. or x= 0.5949..
