Question 16741: A group of students in Mr. Swanson’s statistics class collected data on the price of a 20 ounce loaf of white bread at various stores in the area. The prices they obtained were: $0.79, $1.19, $0.33, $1.22, $1.05, $1.49, $1.19, $1.29, and $0.99. If M is the median of these prices and N is the mean, find M – N.
Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To find the median, arrange all the prices in order from lowest to highest:
.33, .79, .99, 1.05, 1.19, 1.19, 1.22, 1.29, 1.49 ---> the middle score = 1.19=M
To find the mean, add all the prices up (I got $9.54), and divide by 9:
Mean = $1.06 = N
M-N = $1.19 - 1.06 = .13
