Question 165978: I'm sorry if this isnt a quadratic equation...... we havent been doing algebra long so i just picked a random subject.
Here is my question (its from textbook 'Key Maths 9,3 chapter 8 section 2 homework'):
a) copy and complete : (a+b)(a-b)=
b)use the formula to simplify these
1- (s+2t)(s-2t) 2- (f+5g)(f-5g) 3-(p-3q)(p+3q)
Please help ! It said that i should include working out if possible but i dont even know how to start tackling any of this! Our maths teacher just handed us the sheet without explaining any of it

(a+b) (a-b) is a special set of factors when multiplied together because two of the terms are cancelled out so you end up with also called the difference of two squares. In other words any time you have the sum of two variables multiplied by the difference of those variables you end up with this pattern. When two binomials have the form (A+B) and (A-B) the are called conjugate binomials.
1. you simply take the s term and square it and subtract the 2t term squared. and the same for any problem with conjugate binomials
