Question 162776: The length of a rectangle is twice the width. The area is 18yd^2. Find the length and width.

Call the width of the rectangle = w
The length is twice this, which is 2w.
The area is the length times the width = (w)(2w) = 18
2w^2 - 18
w^2 = 9
Therefore width = 3 yards, length = 6 yards.
