Question 159246: hey,
could you please solve the following problem for me, and thank you.
Sammy McWire hits a massive pop-up. the height h, in meters, of the ball is
given by h = 1.2+20t-5t^2, where t is in seconds. what is the maximum height
of the ball? if it is caught at the same height at which it was hit. how long
is it in the air?
i will be waiting for the solution,
and thank you again,
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To find the max height, you need to find the vertex. Notice how the equation (I just rearranged the terms) is in the form . So you can use the formula to find the value of "t" at the vertex (ie the time it takes to get to the peak). Once you find "t", plug it into to find the height
-----------------------------------
To find the time it takes for the object to hit the ground, simply plug in h=0 into to get . Now use the quadratic formula to solve for "t"
