Question 158229: Graph the linear inequality
x+5y is equal to or greater than -1
Thanks for you help

Answer by gonzo(654)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
to graph the equation x+5y = 1, change it to the equivalent equation y = (1-x)/5.
taking x from -4 to +4, y will range from -3/5 to +1, and the equation will look like this:

some points on the graph will be
x,y
-4,5/5
-3,4/5
-2,3/5
-1,2/5
0,1/5
1,0
2,-1/5
3,-2/5
4,-3/5
since the original equation is x+5y<=1
then the transformed equation would become
5y<=1-x which would become
y<=(1-x)/5
since the graph is y=(1-x)/5,
any y value that is equal (on the line) or smaller (under the line) would satisfy the equation.
for example, when x = 1, y = 0.
any value of y < 0 would satisfy the equation as well. all those values are under the line.
the area under the line would be shaded to signify that.
so create the graph and shade the area under the graph to satisfy the equation.
