First, divide through by 2 to get the coefficient of equal to 1.
Now add to both sides.
Complete the square in the x-terms by add the square of half the x-coefficient () to both sides of the equation.
Simplify, where possible.
Now factor the left side.
Simplify.
Take the square root of both sides.
Simplify.
Now subtract from both sides.
