Question 148752: Under what kind of situations would one or more solutions of a quadratic equation by not applicable to real life or not realistic to use?
Answer by mangopeeler07(462) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In situations of solving for x in the quadratic equation, where x represents height, weight, absolute value, length, age, a period of time, or anything else that is not expressed in negative terms.
You might get one solution for x that is positive and one that is negative. In the above-stated situations, it would not be realistic to use the negative solutions. Because your height can't be negative, your age can't be negative, your weight can't be negative, length and distance cannot be negative, and you can't do anything in a negative amount of hours.
Therefore if x represents one of those things, the only solution that would make any sense in the real world would be the positive ones.
