To graph inequalities, you first need to know the plot the equality.
When you get ready to plot the equality, you need to decide if the drawing is made with a solid line or a dashed line. If the given equation contains an equal sign (=, >= or <=) then the drawing you make includes a solid line. In this case, the given equation does not include an = ign, so when we get ready to draw, we will use a dashed line.
Now let's find what that drawing should be.
Given :
find I'll assume you know how to plot a line by using a table or knowing slope/intercept. Let's use a table, just in case you don;t know slope intercept.
x=0, yields y=0
x=1, yields y=4 we now have enough information to draw our line.
1)Plot the points (0,0) and (1,4).
2)Draw in the dashed line that includes those two points. Make sure to draw a line, not just the segment (the little piece) between the points.
So now we have a dashed line rising left to right that cuts the plane into two halves.
3)Look at the original inequality to decide which side of the line applies. In our problem, y is "greater than". So any y that lies 'above' the dashed line is a solution to the given inequality.
This site does not have a nice way to graph inequalities. But if you look at the line below, make it dashed and then crosshatch the area above the line, you will have your graph.
