You're on the right track, but "five-fourths of the number" does not translate to . It translates to where the is multiplied by x. The same applies to the statement "third of the number "
So our equation should look like this:
Multiply both sides by the LCD of 12 (the LCD is the LCM of the denominators). This will eliminate the fractions (note: if you need help with finding the LCM, check out this solver)
Distribute and multiply the LCM to each side
Combine like terms on the left side
Divide both sides by 31 to isolate x
