Question 120137: USE THE QUADRATIC FORMULA TO SOLVE:

x^2 - x/1 =1
2
*Note. Problem reads, x Squared over 2, minus x over 1 = 1
Use Quadratic Formula To solve

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x Squared over 2, minus x over 1 = 1
----------
x^2/2 - x/1 = 1
Multiply thru by 2 to get:
x^2 -2x-2 = 0
x = [2 +- sqrt(4-4*-2)]/2
x = [2 +- 2sqrt(3)]/2
x = 1+sqrt(3) or x = 1-sqrt3
