Question 1190232: I was solving 10x^2-16=0 using the quadratic formula.
I got x=1.247219129 and x=-1.247219129
How many decimal places do I need to use for my answer?

Answer by math_tutor2020(3817)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Those values you got are a bit incorrect.

My calculator is showing
x = -1.264911064067 and x = 1.264911064067
both of which are approximate of course

The rounding precision is entirely arbitrary and up to your teacher to decide.
Unfortunately I'm not sure what your teacher wants, so you'll have to ask him/her.
