Question 1159606: a guy wire is a wire which is attached to an object and secured to the ground. quite often an object is secured on either side by a pair of guy wires as shown in the diagram below. suppose that wire #1 makes an angle of 62degrees to the ground and is 35m in length, while wire #2 makes an angle of 48 degrees to the ground (its length not given). given the specified angles, what distance from the first wire should the second wire be secured to the ground?

.
sin 62 = PL/35
PL = 35 * sin62 =39.9
tan 42 = PL/LB
LB = PL/tan 42
LB = 39.9/sin42 degrees
LB = 59.63 m

The other person's WRONG!
Correct answer: Ground-distance between the 2 wires:
Round to desired number of decimal places.

For tutor @MathTherapy....

Much easier solution method than the other tutor, thank you... plus you used the right numbers and did the calculations correctly.

But there is a typo in the calculation you show: should be 35*sin(70), not 5*sin(70).

Might be worth your time to correct the typo so as not to confuse the student.
