Question 1129101: compare the number of x-intercepts in the graph of f(x) = x2 to the number of x-intercepts in the graph of g(x) = -x2 -5. Be sure to include the transformations that occurred between the parent function f(x) and its image g(x).

compare the number of x-intercepts in the graph of f(x) = x^2 to the number of x-intercepts in the graph of g(x) = -x2 -5. Be sure to include the transformations that occurred between the parent function f(x) and its image g(x).
Starting with f(x) = x^2
Multiply by -1 to get h(x) = -x^2 which is a reflection in the x-axis
Subtract 5 to get g(x) = -x^2-5 which moves h(x) down 5 units.
-----
f(x) = x^2 touches the x-axis at x = 0
-----
g(x) does not touch the x-axis
----------
