write the the factored form of the equation. x^5 -4x^4 -12x^3=0

Just by looking at it you can see that x^3 will factor out of the equation:
x^3(x^2 - 4x - 12) = 0
:
You can recognize that the quadratic can be easily factored also, so you have:
x^3(x - 6)(x + 2) = 0
