here's a solution by edwin mccravey from algebra.com

basically, a pure quadratic equation is a quadratic equation tha's missing the middle term.

the standard form of a quadratic is ax^2 + bx + c = 0

the standard form of a pure quadratic is ax^2 + c = 0

here's a reference on pure quadratic equation.

http://blogformathematics.blogspot.com/2011/10/pure-quadratic-equations.html

an affected quadratic equation contains the x^2 term and the x term.

it can be complete or incomplete as explained by edwin mccravey.

his explanation pretty much explains it all.
