A rectangular park has a width of (y+2) feet and the area is (4ysquared+7y-2) ft. Write an expression in terms of y to model the original length of the park. After the park is remodeled the new area will be (4ysquared+11y+6)ft. By how many feet did the length of the park change?

the area of the park is equal to 4y^2 + 7y - 2

the width of the park is y + 2

the area of the park is equal to the length * the width.

therefore, if you divide the area by the width, you will get the length.

you can use normal division or synthetic division, however you prefer.

you will find that the length is equal to 4y - 1.

after the park is remodeled, the area becomes 4y^2 + 11y + 6.

the width remained the same, so divide the new area by the width.

you will find that the new length is 4y + 3.

the difference between 4y + 3 and 4y - 1 is equal to 4 feet.

the length was increased by 4 feet.
