Question 1013684: 4x^2-3x-4=0
Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4x^2 -3x -4 = 0
divide both sides of = by 4
x^2 -3x/4 -1 = 0
x^2 -3x/4 = 1
complete the square
x^2 -3x/4 +9/64 = 1 + 9/64
(x - 3/8)^2 = 64/64 + 9/64 = 73/64
x - 3/8 = (3/8) * sqrt(7)
x = (3/8) + ((3/8) * sqrt(7))
x = (3/8) * (1 + or - sqrt(7))
therefore
x = (3/8) * (1 + sqrt(7))
or
x = (3/8) * (1 - sqrt(7))
