using synthetic division

-2 |1 - 3 + 2k
.........- 2 + 10

..,,...1 - 5 + 7
then we can write the equation
2k + 10 = 7
2k = 7 - 10
2k = -3
k = -1.5
:

7 = 10 + 2k

7 - 10 = 2k

- 3 = 2k
