totally stumped on how to solve this problem:

y-1/y^2-3y-4 = 1/y-4 - 1/y+1
(y-1)/(y-4)(y+1) = ((y+1)-(y-4))/(y+1)(y-4)
=> (y-1) = (y+1-y+4)
y-1 = 5
y=6
