8 = 20%x
[set up this equation because 20% of x is 8]
8 = (20/100)x
[20% is equal to 20/100]
8(100/20) = (20/100)x(100/20)
[times 100/20 on both sides to cancell out 20/100]
40 = x
[x equals to forty]
