Question 162463: x/8=x-5/6
I assume your problem is x/8=(x-5)/6; where (x-5) should all be above the 6, in this case by cross multiplying we obtain
6x=8(x-5)
6x=8x-40
6x-8x=8x-8x-40
-2x=0-40
-2x/-2=-40/-2
x=20
Lets check:
x/8 = (x-5)/6 ?
20/8 ? (20-5)/6
5/2 ? 15/6
5/2 = 5/2 answer is correct!
