S I think that if you roll two dice then it will be a one then a two so from the one you have to put six tree branches then from the two you have to put six tree branches to.so eventually you count them all up and it comes to 12.so I just get really confused on how to make a probability like a fraction.Because I know that you have to do somthing with favarable outcomes.Please and thank you.

Question 86621This question is from textbook Mathematics for elementary teachers
: The problem I am struggling with is as follows:
part a. If one inch on a map represents 35 miles, how many miles are represented by 3 inches? 10 inches? n inches?
This is what I have done so far:
35 miles to 1 inch = x miles to 3 inches
35:1 = x:3 (cross multiply)
x = 105
35 miles to 1 inch = x miles to 10 inches
35:1 = x:10 (cross multiply)
x = 350
35 miles to 1 inch = x miles to n inches
35:1 = x:n (cross multiply)
x = 35n

part b. Los Angeles is about 1000 miles from Portland. About how many inches apart would Portland and Los Angeles be on this map?
Don't have any clue how to set this problem.
Thank you for your help.

: The problem I need help with is as follows:
A family uses 5 gallons of milk every 3 weeks. At that rate, how many gallons of milk will they need to purchase in a year's time?

This is what I have tried --
5 gallons : 3 weeks = x gallons : 52 weeks
5/3 = x/52 (cross multiply)
3x = 260 (divide by 3)
x = 86.6 or 87 gallons

Question 86662This question is from textbook Mathematics for elementary teachers
: I am stumped with this problem. Please help.
The problem states:
A box contains three different varieties of apples. What is the smallest number of apples that must be taken to be sure of getting at least 2 of one kind? How about at least 3 of one kind? How about at least 10 of a kind? How about at least n of a kind?
This is what I tried:
3 varieties of apples : 1 = x : 2 apples of one kind
3:1 = x:2 (cross multiply)
x=6
3:1 = x:3
x = 9
3:1 = x:10
x = 30
3:1 = x:n
x = 3n
Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.
