Question 310511: I am a fifth grader and we are working on proportions. I know how to figure out the missing number in a proportion where the problem is 1/3 = 1-1/3/N. You change 1-1/3 into 4/3 and solve the equation.
I get totally confused when N is on the other side of the equation, for example, N/8=1/3. Since 8 does not go into 3 I tried going to the lowest denominator, 24 and I come up with N = 3/24. This doesn't look right. Please help.
