THE PRICE PER PERSON TO RENT A LIMOUSINE FOR A PROM VARIES INVERSELY AS THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS.
IF NINE PEOPLE RENT THE LIMOUSINE, THE COST IS $70 EACH.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE RENTING THE LIMOUSINE WHEN THE COST PER COUPLE IS $105?
:
Write a ratio equation, since it varies inversely invert one of the ratios
Let n = no. of people renting when the cost = $105
=
Cross multiply
105n = 9 * 70
105n = 630
n = 630/105
n = 6 people renting pay $105
:
You can confirm this: total cost for the limo = $630
When there are 9 people: 9 * 70 = 630
When there are 6 people: 6 * 105 = 630
