quantity = 1 room prepared and painted.
time = 15 hours.
solve for rate to get:
r*15 = 1
r = 1/15
the rate of preparing and painting 1 room is 1/15 of the room in one hour.
therefore in 52 hours, the painter can prepare and paint 52 * 1/15 = 3.47 rooms rounded to 2 decimal places.
you can also look at this as a ratio.
15/1 = 52/x
15 hours is to one painted room as 52 hours is to x painted rooms.
cross multiply to get 15x = 52
divide both sides of the equation by 15 to get x = 3.47 rounded to 2 decimal places.
