"Write a proportion and solve"
--What percent of 80 is 42?
--------------
"Percent" implies "per hundred" ; so you
write x/100 = 42/80
Then you solve for x to get the "percent".
80x=4200
x=52.5
42 is 52.5% of 80
------------
