Question 616281: 4/2x=7/3
Answer by dragonwalker(73) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you notice 4/2 can be simplified to 2/1 by dividing both the top and the bottom by 2.
2/1 is the same as 2 so the formula can be written as:
2x=7/3
to find x you have to divide 2x by 2 but to make the equation even you also have to divide all by 2 on both sides so you have:
2x/2 = 7/(3*2) - this is written this way as in order to divide 7/3 by 2 you have to put the 2 under the 7 as you put the 2 under 2x on the left, but the 7 already has a 3 under it, so these numbers are multiplied together.
x = 7/6
but this can be simplified as the 7 is bigger than the 6.
Imagine the fraction as representing pies. The denominator represents how slices of pie fit into a pie pan. In this case 6 slices can fit into a pie. The numerator represents how many slices we have. we have 7 slices. So we can take 6 of them to make one whole number (or pie) and then we have one slice left
(7 - 6)
so it can be written as:
x = 1 1/6
I can explain it in more depth if you need it, just message me and I can add to the answer.
