Question 542279: Jaron is downloading a file. The size of the file is 3200kg. It takes 3 minutes to download the first 1200kg of the file. If the file continues downloading at the sam rate, how many more mintues will it take to finish downloading?
I tried to put the ratio of 3200kg:3min = 1200KG:X I didnt understand where to go next. Thank you for trying to help.

Answer by neatmath(302)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

You were close, but a better way to look at it is like this:

It takes 3 minutes to download 1200 kb.

So how many minutes does it take to download 3200 kb???

In other words, 3 is to 1200 as what is to 3200?

Then you set up a proportion like this:

Then cross multiply!

So it should take you 8 minutes total to download the 3200 kb if it takes you 3 minutes to download 1200 kb.

Thus, the answer to your question would be:

It would take you 5 more minutes to finish downloading the file.

I also used kb instead of kg, because digital files are usually in kilobytes, megabytes, or gigabytes, not kg (which stands for kilograms).

I hope this helps!
