3.86 * 2= $7.72 and then i get completley lost.

You are on the right track, you need to finish cross multiplying, you only did one way;
3.86(2)
Now do the other side;
1.12(n);
so you have;
1.12n=7.72
Now divide each side by 1.12;
n=6.89
