: Asking for some gentle guidance please.
Solve each equation. # 43 on page 147.
0.5x+2 2.25x+27
_______ = _____________
3 9
In case this looks bad.... 0.5x+2 OVER 3 = 2.25x+27 OVER 9

I have done the following:
9(0.5x+2) = 3(2.25x+27)
Do I need to move the decimals? It does not seem to matter thus far in getting the correct answer. I know to cross cancel but with the decimals I am getting a tad confused perhaps.
4.5x+18 = 6.75x+81
Subtract 4.5x from both sides
18= 2.25x+81
Subtract 81 from both sides
-63 = 2.25x
Divide -63 from both sides
and I get the wrong answer which I hope you see what I am doing wrong!
The answer is to be {-28}
I am over thinking this I am sure and it is late. I shall leave this and hope for a pleasant, helpful push in the correct direction to solve this in the AM.
Thank you for your time and help!

(.5x+2)/3=(2.25x+27)/9
1.5x+6=2.25x+27 Multiply each side by 9 (LCM) to eliminate fractions.
-.75x=21 add -2.25-6 to each side.
x=-28 divide each side by -.75
